What do you like most about living & working in Hawai’i?

I sense in HI a genuine appreciation for nature and cultural traditions. People I have encountered in HI seem to have a very relaxed nature.

You worked in New York (among other places). What did you like most about living & working in New York?

I’m very content with living in HI other than the fact that my family lives on the East coast. What I miss most from NYC is the Garment District. The NYC Garment District is a wonderful source for inspiration, I love the energy there. Unfortunately Hi does not have any area remotely similar to NYC’s Garment District.

Do you miss anything about life in NY? Is there anything you absolutely do not miss?!!

I’m embarrassed to admit that I miss delivery of what ever, whenever. I don’t miss the subway.

How would you compare & contrast life & your professional world & life in NY & HI?

NY & HI are similar in that you meet people from all over the world. Many people I have encountered who live here are from somewhere else, which was the same for NYC. Professionally people are more patient here & everyone one walks slowly, I’m still trying to master that.

Do you have a favorite season for style & fashion?

In NYC I had an excitement for the fall season. Of course now that I live in HI, I can’t help but to be excited by the resort season.

How would you compare & contrast the world of fashion & design in Hawai’i & New York? Either day to day trends or more generally speaking.

My timing in relocating to HI couldn’t have been more perfect. I am very excited to be a part of the first Hawaii Fashion Month. NYC may be seen as the fashion capital of the USA. But, the State of HI is united in establishing a credible and viable fashion industry. I feel fortune to be based in what could be potentially the new “fashion frontier”.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Textiles, Textures, Cinema 30’s through the 70’s, Pop Culture/Music Videos, Nature, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, I could go on & on. I find inspiration everywhere.
